Word Vancouver is back celebrating BC writers through the lens of joy all for FREE.
[Vancouver, BC] — September is Literacy Month. While BC ranks first among provinces and territories in adult literacy - we want to keep that number up and grow access to literary experiences with the festival each year. Word Vancouver brings readings, workshops, and panels for no cost to Downtown Vancouver allowing people of all ages to engage with works that inspire them while allowing space for critical thinking and reflection. This year’s theme is finding joy in the dark times giving plenty of opportunity for attendees to find some reprieve of the goings on in the world while in community.

● WHO: Esteemed crime writer Sam Wiebe, Canadian athlete, activist, and author Betty Baxter, Local BC poet Russell Thornton, Giller Prize Finalist Eddy Boudel Tan, Anvil Press publisher Brian Kaufman, CBC Nonfiction Prize winner Susan Cormier, Fantasy and Romance writer Katrina Kwan, and special guest Honourable Anne Kang, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, and Sport.

● MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES: Attendees enjoying the exhibitor fair and participating in sessions, interviews with BC authors and publishers, children engaging with readings and authors, celebrating 30 years of the Poetry in Transit program (starting at 2:30PM (PT) with Honourable Anne Kang, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport making an appearance at approximately 4:00PM (PT)
