Coast Foundation Society - Young Adult Program - Rabble Rouser
We’re the Rabble Rousers, a group of mental health advocates speaking up about the stigma and struggles young people face on their recovery journeys. This year, we’re focusing on the link between food and mental health with our first-ever magazine, contemPLATE, where we share our stories, recipes, and artworks.

Our mission is to bring people together around a “community kitchen table” to share meals, share stories, and push for change. In the past, we’ve created digital stories on YouTube, launched the They Called Me Mental podcast, teamed up with the Vancouver Mural Festival on the Courage mural, and put out PSAs to spark conversation about mental health. Joanna Liang
Joanna Liang (she/her) is a book artist and poet who authors, illustrates, and photographs for her artist’s books and zines. Her artist's books explore the intersections between climate grief, toxic productivity, and what gardening can teach us about sustaining love and care. Joanna’s unique way of designing her images and text around the windows she cuts out from her pages allows her to take advantage of a book’s sequentiality to form recontextualized repetitions with a single page turn. By revealing the terrible, ridiculous, and beautiful within the routine of our everyday, her practice aims to smash our bottles of grief open, sharp, and jagged, to ferry us towards a simply complicated joy.

A story of thoughts
My name is Rindala, and I’m a Vancouver-based child development specialist and clinical counselor with a deep passion for storytelling and writing. This past winter, I self-published a French-language bedtime story titled Et si on dormait ?, which I both wrote and illustrated. This gentle story follows a curious baby and a wise firefly as they explore the magic of dreams—a calming story created with intention to soothe and inspire little ones at bedtime. Since its release, it has received very encouraging feedback from parents who have shared how much their children have connected with it.

Oliver Arthur
I’m a cartoonist/illustrator currently living on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, or ‘Vancouver’. Most of my work takes the form of self published zines, comics, and artist books, with particular attention paid to the material qualities of print; ink and paper choices being just as important to the art object as its contents. My stories range in genre and subject matter from wordless meditations on hope and heartache, to satirical parodies of film noir. Though the themes may change from piece to piece, my love of cartoon language and the tightrope-walk between sentimentality and levity lies at the heart of each story.
