Participants: Kristi Wong | Carolyn Nakagawa

Kristi Wong

Kristi Wong is a genderfluid-y Canadian-born writer of Chinese-Malay descent, which is too many hyphenated descriptors from someone plagued by hyphens their entire life. Their work is informed by a stubborn fascination with complexity and nuance, their intersectional identity, and the retroactive grief, joy, and discovery of late-diagnosed ADHD. Pieces of theirs have appeared or are forthcoming in emerge 24: The Writer’s Studio Anthology, Tahoma Literary Review, WordWorks, and Chthonic Lit. Currently, they’re spinning up little tales of wonder, horror, and everything in between. You can find out more at kristi-wong.com.

Carolyn Nakagawa

Carolyn Nakagawa is a fourth-generation Anglo-Japanese Canadian poet, playwright, and researcher who makes her home in the territory colonized as Vancouver, BC. Nakagawa’s poems have appeared in publications such as The Malahat Review, CV2, and ARC, and in the anthologies The Gate of Memory: Poems by Descendants of Nikkei Wartime Incarceration (Haymarket Books) and AlliterAsian: Twenty Years of Ricepaper Magazine (Arsenal Pulp Press). She is currently developing a play with the Confederation Centre of the Arts about the first person to translate Anne of Green Gables into Japanese, and a musical about The New Canadian newspaper. She is seeking a publisher for her full-length poetry manuscript. Learn more about her work at cynakagawa.com.
